Taxes and Taxation
The leading higher education institution training managers and academic staff for the banking and financial system since 1996 — history, mission and today's tasks.
The Banking and Finance Academy is the “school of higher qualification” of Uzbekistan's financial system. Its history began in the country's turning-point years — when the banking and financial system was being rebuilt from the ground up and the demand for qualified professionals grew day by day.
1996: from an idea to a decree
The Academy was established by Presidential Decree No. 1460 of 2 May 1996 “On establishing the Banking and Finance Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and by Resolution No. 180 of the Cabinet of Ministers of 17 May 1996 “On the organisation of the activities of the Banking and Finance Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
These documents were the final point; the road itself began much earlier. In 1996 the idea of founding the Academy was first raised at a meeting of the Association of Banks of Uzbekistan, practical work started in June of that year, and the opening ceremony took place on 4 November. From that day on, the country's banking and financial education entered a separate, independent stage.

Mission: not just staff, but a system
The Banking and Finance Academy is a state higher education institution that trains, retrains and upgrades the skills of managerial staff and specialists for the banking, financial and tax systems and for the real sector of the economy; it prepares highly qualified academic and academic-teaching staff and carries out research in these fields.
The definition shows that the Academy's task is not merely to issue diplomas — it is to educate a system:
- Training professionals — graduates rigorous in theory and confident in practice across banking, finance and taxation.
- Retraining and advanced training — bringing the knowledge of practising managers and specialists in line with the demands of the time.
- Academic staff — shaping a new generation of highly qualified researchers and lecturers.
- Research — studies in finance, banking and taxation that give practice a solid foundation.
The master's programme — where theory meets practice
The master's programme in “Taxes and Taxation” became exactly such a bridge for me: on one side the legal norms studied in the classroom, on the other a real declaration, real reporting and the everyday tasks of a real organisation. The Academy brought these two worlds to the same table.
Every topic studied here — banking supervision, fiscal policy, financial analysis — turned into practical knowledge applied directly in professional decisions. At the same time, the Academy's academic environment taught me not to remain a mere “listener”, but to look for the reason behind every figure.
In conclusion: the doors opened in the autumn of 1996 are open today as well — and every listener who walks through them carries on their shoulders the responsibility for the future stability of the country's financial system.
