Samarqand — The Legendary Pearl of the East

Samarqand is one of the oldest centers of human civilization, located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road. As the capital of Amir Temur's empire, this city attracts tourists from all over the world with its peerless architectural monuments and rich cultural heritage.

Registon Square and Its 3 Madrasahs

Registon is the main symbol of Samarqand and the pinnacle of world architectural art. Three majestic madrasahs stand on the square:

  • Uluğbek Madrasah (1417–1420): Built during the Timurid Renaissance, it was one of the largest scientific and astronomical academies of its era.
  • Şerdor Madrasah (1619–1636): Built by Yalanğtuş Bahodir. The depictions of the sun and lion-tiger on the portal of the madrasah are rare examples of Oriental miniature art.
  • Tillakori Madrasah (1646–1660): Received the name "Tillakori" due to the extensive use of gilding in its interior decorations.
Recommendation for photographers and tourists: The best photos and video recordings at Registon Square are captured between 19:30 and 21:00 in the evening. The night illumination system gives the blue tiles and golden domes a magical hue.

Other Historical Monuments

Every visitor to Samarqand is recommended to see the Göri Amir Mausoleum, Bibi Xonim Mosque, Şohi Zinda Complex, and Mirzo Uluğbek Observatory.
